Program Description

The Military Science and Leadership minor follows the guidance of the United States Army’s Cadet Command and APSU’s academic requirements. The minor has a four year academic plan for traditional students and a two year plan for veteran students or those attending Army ROTC Basic Camp. Military Science classes are linked to the United States Army Cadet Command Army Learning Areas (ALA’s) of: Leadership, Mission Command, Military Operations, and Military Training. The classes include leadership training, historical background of the Army, customs and courtesies, Army structure with its various commands, military justice system and law of land warfare, principles of unified land operations, and hands-on training in land navigation, small unit tactics, weapons qualification, and the Army Combat Fitness Test. Completion of the minor, along with a bachelor’s degree, qualifies the student to commission as an Army officer.
