The Freshman Seminar exists to give you a safe place to be introduced to APSU and the campus resources that exist to help you success in your first year as an APSU student. Our goal is to introduce you to campus resources, opportunities, and experiences that allow for a smooth transition into life as an Austin Peay student and assist in navigating any challenges you may encounter.

An interdisciplinary course which provides students with a foundation for success. Emphasis is placed on student engagement, support services, library literacy, financial literacy, and academic planning. This course required for all first time freshman and students who enter APSU with fewer than 12 hours earned in a college/university setting after high school graduation but recommended for all new students. Students must register and remain enrolled in UNIV 1000 until a grade of “C” is earned.

An introduction to university life in its many facets, including but not confined to, critical reading skills, deep familiarity with library resources, a broad familiarity with the various departments (academic and administrative) of the university, expectations and responsibilities of university life, the history of Austin Peay State University.

An introduction to university life in general and to leadership in particular. Students will work toward a definition of leadership, they will study examples of good and bad leadership, and they will work toward uncovering their particular qualities of leadership.
