Public Policy Minor

Public Policy minors develop an understanding of governmental processes, acquire proficiency in the tools of policy analysis, and examine how public policies are formulated, implemented, and evaluated. The program is structured around a required course in American government (POLS 2010) and a two-course sequence in public policy (POLS 2040 and PM 3235). Students then complete nine hours of electives, allowing them to develop expertise in policy areas aligned with their interests and career goals, including but not limited to economic policy, social policy, urban development, health care, family policy, crime and punishment, judicial policy, and foreign policy. The minor prepares students for careers in public policy analysis and research, legislative affairs, public affairs, government relations, and advocacy. Graduates pursuing policy-related careers may find opportunities with legislative offices, government agencies, think tanks, nonprofit and advocacy organizations, international governmental and nongovernmental organizations, universities, and research institutes.
