Program Description
The Public Management minor provides students with the practical, analytical, and managerial skills needed to succeed in leadership and administrative roles across the public, nonprofit, and quasi-public sectors. The program develops competencies in public policy implementation, budgeting and financial management, organizational leadership, personnel administration, strategic planning, and public service delivery. Students gain an understanding of how public organizations operate and how managers navigate the political, legal, and administrative environments in which those organizations function. Particular attention is given to the challenges of managing public programs and organizations, including intergovernmental relations, local government administration, and community and economic development. The minor complements a wide range of majors and prepares students for careers in government, nonprofit management, public administration, public affairs, and community development, while also providing excellent preparation for graduate study in public administration, public policy, and related fields, including Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs.
