Program Description

Professional Writing helps students in a variety of disciplines learn how to prepare documentation for common workplace communications; how to use technology; and how to accomplish professional tasks, such as designing training manuals; writing instructional guides; editing graphics; valuing writer-editor relationships; creating informative slide presentations; generating marketing materials; and honing proofreading skills. The Professional Writing minor also includes discussions of desktop publishing, effective interviewing techniques, drafting impressive letters of application, and sharpening resume-writing skills. Students discuss nuances of language and usage to refine the craft of constructing written and/or oral communication in a way that is easily understood by its intended audience to narrate, inform, compare, persuade, describe, or instruct.
