Description: The course reviews a wide range of theories exploring the nature and causes of conflict, the possibilities for conflict resolution, and the foundations of peace. It provides students with a set of tools for the analysis of contemporary conflicts and shows how evidence and theory can be effectively used to understand peace and conflict. The course draws on a wide range of disciplines, including sociobiology, anthropology, sociology, social psychology, social work, political science, history, and philosophy. It also gives students a practical understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of current approaches to conflict resolution and peace-building.
